I have never bought tuna in water before, always preferring it in oil. Not anymore after trying this gorgeous recipe - here.
Even substituting red onion for spring onion (was all I had), plus adding some 'needing to be used up' radishes, it was light and extrememly tasty.
We had a quarter each of it like this:
The rest we had another day. It would make a fantastic sandwich filler. She used her portion on half an avocado.
I make homemade coleslaw. If we have a sandwich for lunch I will mix a tin of tuna in brine (drained) in a bowl with 2 large spoons of coleslaw. Salt pepper and a dash of light salad cream, yum.
ReplyDeleteWe love coleslaw as well, home made is great as we find shop bought too sloppy.
DeleteIt's funny how different countries view tuna. In North America, or at least in my part of it. Tuna packed in water is the bigger seller, fewer calories and a better taste. The only tuna I like with some oil is the Rio Mare from Italy. There tuna salad in a can is wonderful
ReplyDeleteHad just not tried it before but am glad I have now.
DeleteWe always buy tuna in brine as that's what the cat prefers, and he's a fussy bugger!! I used to buy it in spring water years ago, but I don't think I've ever had it in oil.
ReplyDeleteWe preferred the taste in oil but I think for using like this, in water is better.
