We paid a visit to more charity shops today. Although there wasn’t much to find, I noted that most books were between 25p and £1:50. Eventually finding 2 quite small books, I left DB to pay whilst I went to the next one.
You can imagine my shock when he said he nearly didn’t buy them as they wanted £7. SEVEN POUNDS!!! They weren’t in good condition which was why I wanted them.
Absolutely disgusting and they have lost any future trade from us.
One of the shops from yesterday were only charging £1 for 4 books, of any size.
It always astounds me that these shops don't seem to twig that if things were cheaper they would sell more! Wouldn't they?!

ReplyDeleteIt works both ways. I picked up a book with a red spot (all red spot items 50p)and it was a very new book in excellent condition about Le Tour. I asked at the counter as I felt it was worth more. It seems their volunteer had misunderstood his task and was putting red spots on everything that caught his eye! The manager suggested £2 which I was happy to pay. But yes, some CS do overcharge. (in Norfolk I find CS in Holt seem more expensive than Cromer, but Hunstanton ones are cheaper)

ReplyDeleteI sometimes wonder how charity shops price things. In Canada things are much more expensive in ours. Books seem to be around $2.00 each. I think that is why people buy online from our garage sale sites.

Well here in the US used cars are selling almost the same price as new. This pandemic has made the world crazy.
