Other fuel increases

Petrol has gone up another 7p per litre since last week. A different kind of increase is logs for our wood burner.

The guy we normally buy ours from has ceased trading so we have had to find another place.

Last time we ordered, two years ago, one cubic metre was £78. This time, from the new place, it will be £120, hopefully, we fall into the free delivery area!

The next nearest one is selling theirs for £155 plus delivery - blimey.

We could also squeeze another 500 litres of oil into our tank. Last time we ordered, in February, it was 69p per litre or thereabouts. Our neighbour bought hers 3 weeks later for 90p. It currently stands anywhere between 99p and £1.05p per litre. That is the same as the price hike in March.

I am sure it will get worse but do you go for it now, in case the price jumps? Who knows what is best.

That means, any help we get from the government will just about wipe that delivery out and that is ony for 1/2 a tank:(

  1. I'd go for it now because prices aren't going to go down any time soon.

  2. I think I would go for it right now, from what I hear prices will go up a bit more yet and won't be coming down for awhile.

    God bless.

    1. Might just bite the bullet and tough luck if it does reduce.

  3. I would agree with Joy. I’m in the US but i think you’re in more difficult circumstances than we are. At the moment, anyway…
I’m off to see about kefir grains. I’m intrigued and LOVE the stuff! I can’t take calcium so i try to drink a lot of kefir to build up my bones.

    1. I think you might have more shortages than us at the moment. No doubt, it will get worse. Yes, I think we might just buy some.

  4. Whoop, I've swapped to Chrome and can comment!
I'm in agreement. If you have the funds available I would buy now. I keep thinking about having a log burner fitted. Do you find it only warms the room it's in, or does the heat spread through the house?

    1. Ours is very small and heats our lounge and out into the hallway. If you have a house or chalet bungalow, it should also float a bit up there. Burns just a few logs otherwise it would be like a sauna, can’t shut the door when we are in there! Also can use it to heat pans of water/food if required.

  5. We have just split and stacked our years wood for the stove just over £ 1400 . We have a Morso Squirrel the smallest they do and it heats most of the cottage although in the winter we put an oil fired heater in the bedroom for an hour as an extra boost. We also have an air heater in the bathroom. We can't close the doors when the stove is on as it quickly gets too hot in the room.

  6. Excluding electricity, we generally buy 2 cubic metres of wood, plus oil for central heating. We don’t have the heating on all the time though.

  7. I think I would buy now, we always used to try to top up our tank between June and August, the price nearly always goes up just as people are thinking about getting in supplies ready for Winter.
