Goodness me! Updated

Martin Lewis is furious with what is happening to us in this country, although to be fair, it is a world wide problem. Please spare 10 minutes to watch this.

I learnt something about the coming price hikes in energy. I knew a big one was coming on October 1st but it is going to be way higher than predicted. Also, they are going to be going up every 3 months after that - say what!!!

Combine those rises with food increases, inflation, shrinkflation etc, we are heading to a world of pain. Many financial analysts already say we are in a recession but most are hoping it really doesn't get as far as a depression.

Stop putting your heads in the sand (those that are) and do anything you can to help alleviate what's coming.

Remember Frugal Queen, she now has a Facebook account called Frugal Queen in France and she is working her butt off give her best advice on how to help ourselves. See here.

  1. I tried to watch it but it just keeps freezing - but I can guess how bad it's going to be.

  2. Thanks for sharing this.

The energy hikes are terrible. And I cannot understand people still buying things that they don't need on 'Buy Now Pay Later' deals and storing up debt for the future, people going into debts for huge weddings etc etc, Hard times really are coming and it takes more voices than just Martins to make people listen, although he does do an amazing job of trying to be heard. If ever a man should be part of the Government it is Martin Lewis.

Yet another example of people burying their heads in the sands ... I saw this on Sarah Wilsons Facebook the other day. https://www.facebook.com/sarah8wilson/videos/372023721725364

    1. A friend plus 9 others are flying somewhere hot next year for a massive wedding that will cost them all a fortune but it is what they do, spend, spend, spend. No changing their minds.

  3. I follow Martin on Twitter so I see everything there. He is usually a beacon of hope in hard times, but I think this is driving him to despair. He is such a caring, hard working man.

    1. Unfortunately I don't have twitter but his anger was evident here. About time the brakes were put on again before we all suffer further. Goodness knows what it will do to some people and their mental health. The way people spend has got to change but anything I generally say, for the most part, falls on deaf ears.

  4. If his predictions re.energy hikes are correct, come the New Year we'll be paying just shy of £500 a month on dual fuel! Much more than our mortgage used to be, even when interest rates were 15%. It's shocking!

    1. We are on a contract until next July. Heavens knows what we will pay then but at least for now, being careful means they owe us money.

  5. I'm not keen on Martin Lewis as a person, but his passion and sense is thought provoking. If he can see what is already happening and what will be, why can't the politicians? I think part of the problem with the likes of Rishi et al, is that they are squillionaires so have no real understanding of ordinary people's situations and financial problems.

    1. Me neither normally but he is trying to help. Most MP’s have expenses and I bet cabinet ministers have more.

  6. My direct debit increased to £155 per month in April, after some tussling between me and my provider, them increasing it, and me decreasing it again. I knew it was too much, but with more increases coming I settled on that amount. I'm now just short of £450 in credit. We were already careful with usage , and my bills used to be less than £800 per year at a time that the average was £1200. It's been the same story for the 38 years we've been married; the bills had to be kept as low as possible without damaging our health or our home. Those who haven't lived like that, and who wear shorts and t-shirt in Winter with the heating cranked up, are in for a terrible shock. My gas usage this month was £7, and my electricity £32, though of course standing charges bumped that up and the bill came to over £60.

    1. Things started to get worse when all these standing and daily charges were added. We too have some credit but are not requesting it back. Like you, we have been careful for most of our married life and hope it will hold us in good stead.

    2. As at July's statement we're £50 in debit, paying currently £263 a month. There's only 2 of us here now. We've had no heating on since March, however our boiler is almost 40 years old, so not efficient. It's puzzling as to why it's such a high amount. We're with Eon variable tariff.

  7. I have been worrying about our sons and how they are going to do. I hope that they are getting ready for some fairly difficult times coming up. Both do have small gardens and our youngest is thinking of growing things like lettuce, peppers, and such in his basement over the winter. He gets really good lighting down there.

    God bless.

    1. Basement growing sounds a wonderful idea, hope he does that. People under 60 ish, often haven’t experienced what us older ones have, it will shock them.
