Is currently 32.1C or 90F, as of 14:53 hours. I filled just one watering can up and watered a couple of plants, I could feel my skin burning! Worse is forecast for tomorrow and even hotter at the weekend. No sign of rain for weeks:(
People are still walking their dogs, it’s crazy. Ruby was walked at 06:30 this morning and if lucky, depending on the air and pavement temperatures, she may get a very late evening walk.
Other than watering and the occasional harvesting, we remain indoors, most curtains and windows shut. Indoor temperature is about 5C less.
Thank you for highlighting the effect of heat on our dogs. I walked mine on the beach at 7am, he had plenty of swims to keep him cool. I will be going earlier tomorrow as I do worry about the temperature of pavements on the way there and back on his pads ( luckily only a 5 minute commute). The RSPCA have said "if in doubt, don't go out"
ReplyDeleteI think people who walk or take their dogs out on hot days should be made to wear a fur coat and walk barefoot. See how they fare. Even on holiday Ruby didn’t come out if it was too hot.
DeleteTotally agree makes my blood boil when I see them doing this😡
DeleteWe took our dogs out very early this morning along the canal, then when we went out a couple of hours later to take them to the groomers it was much too hot for them so we took them in the car, and left instructions for them to be left damp after their shampoos and trims.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. Despite Ruby being a spaniel she isn’t over keen on swimming but we can hose her if necessary. She spent a lot of time on the tiled bathroom floor yesterday.
DeleteWe're 112 today and no way would we ever walk our dog in the heat and especially on a sidewalk. They do sell booties for dogs but my black lab refuses. Plus I don't think they would be that effective. I see the homeless walking the streets with their dogs - in this heat and its heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteIndeed and they have nowhere to go I presume although I understand some places over there operate cool air places?
DeleteI have been trying to get out early for my walks as well. Just too hot as the day progresses. Must get out early shopping tomorrow, and picking some herbs to dehydrate.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
We were cutting our raspberries and strawberries back yesterday, too much growth to keep them alive. Hopefully they will fruit again later.
DeletePoor dogs - that is just cruel. xx
