Our local food bank website was checked before we went shopping. They were asking for size 6 nappies, tinned pasta, tinned rice pudding and long life (ultra heat treated) milk.
We got one packet of nappies plus 3 each of tinned pasta, rice pudding and the milk. Without nappies, I could have shopped for more food but, the thought of someone having no nappies for their baby saddened me. It came to 20% of our total food shop so not too bad, we normally aim for 10% but the nappies took us over.
On the way home we popped into Farmfoods to get 2 x 30 cod fish fingers for £11 for us. They would have cost £15.50 in a regular supermarket. A great saving!
I've just been to Asda. I was amazed at the price of fish fingers. Birds Eye cod fillet x 30 were over £7, so I got Asda's own cod fillet for £5.50. I remember when all 3 kids were at home, buying Birds Eye in a bag of 50 (I think) for about £4.
ReplyDeleteCould have gotten 2 x white fish for £8 but we fancied cod for a change.
DeleteJust a heads up, maybe for next time (and if you have an Aldi close by) the Aldi own brand nappies are proven to be better than all the big brand ones and usually a quarter of the price. Those fish fingers were a good price, it's nice to get a bargain isn't it.
ReplyDeleteThese were Lidl own brand but no idea how good they are. Aldi is further away.
DeleteHow wonderful that you purchased nappies. I need to think more of purchasing those kind of items. The next time I shop instead of groceries I think I am going to purchase personal care and baby items for our food bank. Thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
You are welcome.
