Smallest leeks ever?

I grew leeks in one of my new beds and it clearly wasn't up to the task:

This was half the bed. I had 3 left over which I planted in one of my established beds and they are huge by comparison.

I shall add leaves and home composting to it over winter and hope it performs better next year. The other new raised bed did very well yet they both had the same ingredients put in. The other bed was in full sun, this one partially shaded during the day. Yet leeks are supposed to be happy in light shade - go figure!

  1. Something odd has gone on with our leeks too - they're also the size of yours (thin and quite short) but strangely have a very strong taste. Too strong in fact, none of the fairly mild sweetness they have normally. No idea why.

    1. Weird isn’t it. These taste okay though.

  2. I expect they would be called baby leeks and sell for twice as much as the normal ones!

  3. They look just like the expensive Baby Leeks that you find in the shops, small but full of flavour. I bet they taste lovely and were still worth growing for all their slim size.

    1. They were, just irritating to have to harvest half of them rather than just two!
