Little changes .....

We are beginning to notice snowdrops popping up on our weekly walks. Catkins had emerged earlier but are now starting to grow in length and will shortly release their pollen. This morning at just after 7am, I heard the birds singing so that too is happening.

Winter has clearly not finished with us yet. Lots of cold and probably frosty days to come. Might still get some snow. Hail will wait until flowers are blooming before it decides to shatter them:(

We have decided now to switch our cooker off at the wall. It was mainly being used for its clock but we have bought a cheap replacement. It will only be switched on when we need to use the hob top. The air fryer, microwave, slow/pressure cooker have replaced it for the most part. The microwave is departing slowly, it will be replaced by an inverter microwave. The main difference being how it delivers power.

A standard one, with a turntable usually, set at 70% will deliver full power for 70% of the time. This usually creates hot and cold areas to your food requiring you to stir it. An inverter (usually without a turntable) delivers a consistent 70% of power for the full cooking time, warming all the food at the same time.

When our washing machine gives up the ghost, we will get one with a bigger drum, that allows for a cold or very cool wash, also a short cycle. My machine will wash at 30C but its idea of an express wash is still 1 hour, way too long.

Little changes...

  1. I'd never heard of that new type of microwave although my microwave is almost new so won't be replacing it.

It used to be February half term week when we seemed to get snow - we shall see.

  3. I've been following your air fryer trials with interest, I'm thinking more and more of getting one when we finally move. I didn't know there were different types of microwaves - every day I learn something new!

    1. My air fryer choice was between Ninja Dual or Corsori. I watched lots of cooking done in them to make my mind up.

  4. The little changes all add up. The shortest cycle on a 30 degree wash on my machine is 46 min - still too long!

    1. Most of our clothes just need freshening up so a shorter cycle would be nice.

  5. We have a Bosch washing machine quite a few years old now but it has a quick wash only 15 mins and it works just fine as long as things aren't really really dirty- this time of year I have been giving it a quick spin after (13mins) to help it with drying on the line outside so we don't have to use the tumble dryer at all.

    1. I give mine an extra spin and line dry outside as often as possible. Just love the fresh smell.

  6. All those little changes add up to big savings over a period of time.

    God bless.

  7. I had never heard of an inverter microwave and the explanation of how they work is really helpful, thanks. I have a pretty new microwave, and have been finding little cold spots, and sometimes overdone spots on my food so your explanation solves that for me. My washing machine does a 29 minute express wash at 30C which is actually the one I use virtually all the time.

Lots of little changes really do add up don't they.
