I have just updated my Walks II page with our latest walk.
Here are just a few pictures of the newly planted 'down the drive' garden - 4 tomatoes and one tomatillo
Then from the other direction - 5 different types of climbing bean, including 2 that I won from Compostwoman.
This is a west facing wall so gets the sun from 12:30 or so until late afternoon, early evening. I hope that will be enough warmth (plus the residual from the bricks) to keep them going. The tomatoes are in special pots so I can feed and water the roots directly, but the rest of the things will be watered normally. All the beans have temporary squash bottle rings around them to try and protect them from the slugs. Judging by the night time weather forecast, I might have to throw a fleece over the tomatoes tonight as they are saying it might get down to 4C or so.
Watching Gardener's World the other night, Monty Don was putting some broken crocks into the base of a large planter and failed to notice a nice black slug on one of them before he filled and planted it. Let's hope it doesn't eat the potful! Nigel the dog, was as ever, his usual lovely self. Did you know Nigel has his own Facebook page?
Hah! Even the Mighty Monty can slip up!
ReplyDeleteGood grief, I don't believe this weather! We left a great musical BBQ earlier than we'd have wished because it was getting a bit parky. Come on summer!
Gosh, is it really going to be that cold tonight? Would love to see Nigel the dogs facebook page, what do I search on?
ReplyDeleteYou can find it here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Nigel/347759351951653
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the weather here in Norfolk, they just said 7C in the towns and city, lower in the countryside!
What a good idea to plant your tomatoes here, a very good use of space. I've just looked at your Walk in Cromer. I love it there and have also experienced weather such as you did and expect the hot lunch was very welcome.

It was lovely but despite it being cold and wet, we really enjoyed the walk.
DeleteIt is looking great, hope your plants will do well :)
ReplyDeleteSo do I, time will tell no doubt.
DeleteWell you're certainly making the most of every inch of space! I have some strawberry plants in one of the borders by our side path tucked in with the other plants.
ReplyDeleteI didnt know that about Monty's dog Nigel either. I think thats a great name for a dog!
He seems a lovely playful dog as well as a good companion. Hope your strawberries turn out well.
DeleteHow funny about Monty Don, you certainly are observant. It is still cold here even though the sun is shining. June and the heating is still on at work, ridiculous! X
ReplyDeleteI know, I was willing for someone to notice (maybe they did and we just didn't see him get it out). Lovely and sunny here for the past two days but the wind is so cold.xx
DeleteThank you for the link to Nigel! Just looked at you Cromer walk, our family had caravans in Cromer and 4 generations have been going there for holidays. I haven't been for a few years but your pictures did bring back some memories.
