Welcome to my new
follower Frugal in Suffolk.
Having
invested in a half price leg of lamb for Easter, I wanted to make the
best use of the remains. We hope to see DS. in a few weeks so the
majority of the leftovers went into a pie. Gravy was added to meat to
ensure it wouldn't be too dry and then it was frozen without being
further cooked.
The remains of the pastry were made into Gooseberry
jam tarts.
The final part of the meat was made into a lamb 'spag bol'
type meal.
The bones were boiled and made into a lamb, tomato and vegetable soup.
All looks great although I would have made a shepherd s pie instead of pastry. A few less calories and although my pastry is good I hate making it although those jam tarts look to-die-for. Everything used up and no waste which is the main thing.
ReplyDeleteYou could give the bone to a dog or smash it up and bury in the garden.
Warming up here a bit in the Mid-West, taking its time though.
True but as it will help feed my hungry horace of a son, pie is better. I love making pastry so its not a chore.
DeleteWe absolutely adore lamb in any shape or form so all the above would go down really well here. Its such a treat to have lamb and you have made the most of every scrap, zero waste is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteYour gooseberry jam tarts are making my mouth water!
Karen
Thank you. Made some more yesterday as we had leftover pastry from a leek and cheese bake.
DeleteWow! You are just incredible at using up, nothing went to waste.
ReplyDeleteGreat value for money it seems.

I try my best. We wouldn't have bought this if it hadn't been half price but even so, it will be a long time before we buy another one.
DeleteIt all looks delicious! I'm so impressed with how you make everything come to good use :)
ReplyDeleteThank you and I am also impressed with your knitted hats. Quite fancy one for myself but when I went to your link, it was all in a language I couldn't translate - Norweigen?
DeleteHi Dc, yes, I would probably have done the same, though perhaps a shepherd's pie with mash...though I am doing more pastry these days - when, calorifically I least need to be making it!! We had beef and I did similar with the remains, though no bones for stock.
