Sorry new followers, my numbers are still messing about. Welcome to sumdayiwillc, fiona murray and val, via here.
Well, I have finally bitten the bullet regarding getting rid of more things, especially my fabric stash. It is no good me keeping it when 2 years down the line, I have hardly used any. I am intending, sometime, to make at least one quilt for the bed, maybe another for guests. Everything that isn't for that has now being put aside to give away/go into a fabric bank or sell.
I plan on sending some new knickers to a charity mentioned previously by the lovely Scarlet:
Smalls For All
108 Buchanan Crescent,
Eliburn, Livingston, EH54 7EF.
You can read about it here
On top of all that, is a bag of good clothing to the charity shop along with some others things. I haven't totted up the figures yet but it is an excellent start to another year of clearing out.
I need to do this too, I have a pile of fabric that's just not my style and I'll never use it.
ReplyDeleteIt does feel good to get rid. These are pieces of material that went into a textile drum for recycling. Either to be sold or to the textile trade for making into new things.
DeleteOff to Sainsburys today so will by some knickers and pants , never heard of this , thank you for posting it, I shall tell my friends too! Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteGood idea isn't it. I shall get some next time I am passing.
DeleteI am on a major decluttering mission this year and am loving the feeling as yet another bag of stuff leaves the house going to either the charity shop or recycling bins.
ReplyDeleteOnward and upwards say I.
DeleteEnjoy your sorting out! Very liberating isn't it! xx
ReplyDeleteCertainly is!
DeleteOooo, will you regret getting rid of your fabric stash I wonder. I have this problem myself but just can't get the gumption up to part with any of it.
ReplyDeleteBriony
I still have two bags for the two quilts I might make. If by the end of this year, I still have them, they too shall go. 90 items gone today!
DeleteThe best thing I ever did was selling all my unfinished things, crafty bits and bobs and all the things that 'I would get round to doing one day'. The ironic thing was that most of the lovely ladies that bought my things admitted they would be added to their piles 'of things to do'.
ReplyDeleteI still have 5 smallish containers of wool, felt etc still to sort then hopefully sell. Most items are from my Fine Art degree. I no longer use them or want to use them.
DeleteDont get rid of your scraps....make a strip quilt. SO easy and satisfying ! You should have a cutting mat and a rotary cutter; very difficult to quilt these days without these and not a huge investment. I have made six quilts this winter with my scraps ! You can even piece your scraps for backing and binding....SO many wonderful tuts and websites to go to where people are so generously sharing their expertise and advice. Go on Blue Elephant blog and check out the post called Random and see the gorgeous scrap quilt Jolene has made.....I used woolen blankets as batting - did nt cost a penny to make any of them....just my time of which I have plenty...
ReplyDeleteI would not have the patience. It is all I can do to even bear to make a normal square patch quilt. I have kept all bedding for using in another rag rug when my thumbs allow.
DeleteI ended last year having decluttered over 1300 items. Some were sold, some donated, some turned into things which were gifted, and a few that were beyond repair were binned. All of the disposal methods felt great, and I have another bag of stuff for the charity shop following my latest weight loss. The only thing I haven't parted with so far is the dress I had for K's wedding. It hangs on me like a sack now but I'm not quite at the point of letting go of it!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently using up the surplus patches that I cut for the girls' quilts in 2014. I made the 2 quilts, a table runner, a cushion, and I'm now making a piece of fabric to renovate a footstool with. There are still some left so I can see more cushions being made!
I just hope I can at least get started but although my sewing room is south facing, it is freezing and dull this tome of year.
DeleteHi, a new follower here, i need to do the same the OH keeps on and on about the draws of fabric, i might try and sell them on ebay first every penny helps, x
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the blog Sammy. None of this was nice fabric nor the type of fabric I wanted to use. I still have two bins full for two quilts plus other stuff still to try and sell.
