We popped out yesterday at 09:30 to get DGD some much needed body vests. Couldn’t find the right size in Matalan. Then went next door to what looked like a calm Morrison’s, as I needed a few items of food.
It was almost empty and most people kept their distance at the tills. I was also pleased to see many people, including myself, were wearing gloves:
Still no loo rolls, pasta, flour, cheap medicines or evaporated milk. Other favourite hoarding items, such as cereals or rice, hardly any tinned popular goods. I suspect today will be chaos and very different, as people panic buy even more.
Once home and food put away, hands and all door handles and cupboard handles were once again washed!
Sending a parcel up shortly to the ‘kids’. All packets inside have been cleaned but not the baby stuff as I know her mum will wash it all before using. It will all be inside a bag so as not to dirty items I have already washed.
Good! I'm glad people are doing that...still a problem here. Awaiting the official order to shutdown. My public transport is now essential only. I hope you keep well.
ReplyDeleteI read when my sons bring me groceries I need to wipe off the containers, with disinfectant wipes, before putting them away. This makes sense especially for food I put in the refrigerator. I hope we can buy more wipes, hand sanitizer, etc. soon. And toilet paper! Keep healthy.
ReplyDeleteSome officials say don’t bother wiping containers but who knows. I don’t use wipes. I soap my hands well then clean everything like that. Soap my hands again, rinse, dry, then dry all I have washed.
DeleteI hope the supermarkets aren't chaos today as I'm doing my mum & dad's weekly shop and am also doing my own too - doing both so as to keep to one trip per week. My husband's work has paused for the time being as has my self employment. Luckily he has the 80% wages but nothing for me. Lean times ahead. I might be referring to your war diary for ideas!!
ReplyDeleteWar diary saw us through just fine. I am sure some shops will be bad but send my good vibes to you that you don’t have to fight through crowds.
DeleteWe made it! All very calm at our big Morrisons - lined up outside, 2m apart, just letting everyone in one at a time. Very calm - lots of stock apart from the usual out of stock stuff inc. toilet roll etc. I managed to get everything on my mum & dad's list apart from the TV Times (problems with deadline they said). They were limiting some items though - my mum wanted Lurpak and Stork (for baking) but they'd only let me have one or the other - so we sorted this problem elsewhere.
DeleteStrange times for us all, strange to think everyone worldwide is affected too. Your son and DiL will appreciate the baby things and the care you've taken over them.
ReplyDeleteThere were a few surprises in there for them as well.
DeleteWhen I went into Sainsbury’s yesterday afternoon, it was really quiet and people were being very sensible about things, I’m glad to say. Still a fair bit missing from the shelves though. I guess things will improve in due course, as less people are out shopping.
