Tigerella and beans

The largest of the tigerella tomatoes abandoned ship overnight so I harvested it:

It weighed 1/2lb! I also harvested 2 Gardener's Delight, they were delicious.

The runner and French beans are cropping now and it is sometimes difficult to keep up with them. Quite a few had to be composted as they were too large and therefore tough. These were what was left before blanching and freezing:

A few have been kept back for tea.

  1. Why not leave the largest beans to dry and harvest the seeds for next year?

    1. I let the plant do that naturally at the end of the season as it would start to shut down production if left on too early in the season.

  2. That tomato is a whopper! What will you do with it, stuff it? I never liked runner beans at all, until I tried some homegrown ones our neighbour gave us a couple of years ago - so much nicer (tasty, tender and stringless) than shop bought.

    1. We prefer French beans but like some runner beans. The tomato was sliced thinly in a sandwich. Many more are arriving and we shall have some grilled on toast.

  3. A half pound tomato is magnificent. :-)
I have one of my yellow tomatoes finally turning yellow but the red ones are still very green.

  4. Our beans are coming slowly, but there are lots of flowers now so I hope to get a decent crop.

    That is a big tomato.

    God bless.
