Exchanging summer for winter

All my summer clothing has been folded and put away in the top of my wardrobe. All winter items that were up there have been brought down, ironed and hung up. Winter boots and shoes have replaced summer sandals.

Way past their best summer vests have gone for rags or been thrown. The best 3 have been put away. I have invested in 6 thermal vests, a new walking coat and normal coat. The coats came with 30% off. They will both last me years. Gloves hats and scarves are checked over ready to use.

DB has bought new walking boots and trousers, with 30% off. Again, they should last years. We are both ready.

Newspapers are being stocked up (via friends). Oil, logs and kindling are organised. Over the next few weeks I will buy in Christmas items of food. We will eat them all through until Spring. With supply being all over the place, I want to be able to give my guests something nice to eat rather than nothing. We are not a last minute ‘just in time’ household.

My Brexit boxes have grown, they now cover anything and everything required to cover any shortfalls due to the global supply problems. If you can’t see the problems occurring, or think it won’t happen, or affect you and yours, just remember the recent fuel crisis panic buying. That was just fuel...

  2. Your preparations have prompted me to change out summer for winter and get ready for the bad weather I know is coming. Here in the U.S. shelves are sometimes half empty of things we use regularly. I've been stocking up since the pandemic started and as a result, no beds can fall as there are boxes and bins full of items under them. The kitchen cupboard is stocked full of canned and boxed goods.

    1. Great to hear. I have definitely ‘prepped’ more and enjoyed doing so. People on the whole can’t seem to see the problems occurring

  3. Just seen the forecast - up to 20C again on Thursday and Friday - you might need to get the shorts out again!

  4. Most of my summer clothes didn't see the light of day this year. I had a sort through a few weeks ago and sent some to charity. I'm ready for a restock of my Brexit stores now, so plan to do that this weekend as I can get most things I need to replenish more cheaply in home bargains. Thanks for email; very interesting, and something I'll look into more closely.

  5. We sorted the garden out last weekend - got rid of the annuals, set some tulips, put the deckchairs away, etc. I shall have to start on my clothing soon - much prefer summer shoes as I know as soon as I put my boots on, I'll have blisters on my heels!!

    1. Oh dear. I am funny with shoes and boots but have managed to find comfortable ones at last.

  6. Still too warm here to transfer clothing over. I hope to do that next week.

I need to get through our Thanksgiving this weekend and then will start to plan meals, snacks and baking for Christmas.

We haven't run into any real shortages here yet, but I really do think they will be coming and like you I want to be ready.

    God bless.

    1. It is amazing how different countries are finding the shortage situation. Like you, I like to be prepared.

    1. That’s the secret I think. This ‘just in time’ scenario the world operates in will cause problems.

  8. Yes I did my summer clothes away sort out over the weekend, but luckily I always keep a few of the darker colour t-shirts out to wear under fleeces for this transitional time of year and later on under big jumpers. It's been so hot here today the fleece was quickly thrown over the back of the chair and I have been in just the t-shirt. It was so warm I had to come back indoors to cool down after eating dinner out on the patio. The temperature is dropping fast though as the sun has gone down, so probably a chilly night ahead.

  9. I also have supplies for emergencies. My landing is stocked with cat food. We can eat beans but they need their meat. Still, did manage to fill the tank with petrol easily today so that was encouraging. Always look on the bright side of life, (if you can) lol

    1. I have tried to build my supplies around breakfast, snacks and meals, some of which could be boring but hey ho!

  10. I have to admit that my Summerwear and Winterwear differ only in that I put a sweatshirt or jumper on top when required. Being the dog walker lowers one's standards a little.

    1. Indeed it does but who cares. I care less about my appearance now, though didn’t care too much earlier on:)
