Win some, lose some. I tried my blueberry and damson jam leftover bit, it is over cooked. Lovely taste but a bit chewy. Fine for our use though.
Next on my list is piccalilli. Although I will use my normal recipe, I have decided to have jars of normal chunky but also try making a finer version for sandwiches. A piccalilli spread if you will. I’ll let you know how it goes.
From not enough pectin to too much, perhaps. Ah, well, you are the gainer!

DeleteI had the same thing happen with some cherry jam a few weeks past, it was delicious but the consistency of a gummy bear lol, we ate it though,, piccalili sounds delicious!

DeleteSuch a shame about the jam. I have found when it doesn't thicken (lack of pectin) that adding some grated apple helps which avoids the over cooked taste. Believe me there have been many disasters over the years. Looking forward to seeing how the piccalilli spread works out, my husband would love that.

DeleteTurmeric is now reckoned to be something that is "very good for us" so vegetables and turmeric must be extra good! (that's assuming you use turmeric of course!)

DeleteWhat a shame. You could do what I did with some overcooked and decidedly chewy Damson Jam, and add dollops of it to a pie or crumble, it worked really well and meant nothing got wasted.
