Strange...

 We have been eating more healthy meals, with less calories, for a few months now. DB is ready for more, me not so. 

The other evening, we had sausage, mash and vegetables with gravy, normally a meal we enjoy very much, but not this time. We both decided halfway through we weren’t enjoying it. Yesterday we had roast chicken, the same thing.

Today I have spent time online looking for some new healthy meals to expand our range and have found a few more to trial. Most but not all, are stir fry based or quick cook meals.

We shall see how they go. It can be expensive to begin with as new ingredients will need to be bought. They will however, last a long while so that will help.

  1. Good luck on finding new meals, we eat low fat so have quite a few books, our favourite is low fat Italian.

  3. We have been eating lighter with the confinement. A favorite is a hot dish of savoy cabbage, carrots, white beans, chicken broth, and just a wee bit of ham. Season with pepper and lemon thyme. Yummy.

  5. I love my winter meals, so I cut down on breakfast and lunch to be able to have dumplings. Everything is bulked out with low carb veg to reduce the overall calories.

    1. It is easy to see how people put on weight, not realising how much they are consuming. Most evening meals are very calorific. So far, we have been quite full on these lower calorie meals.

  6. Not surprising as we all age. In the last year or two, Farmer and I have cut back on our evening consumption. This week we had very small meals. And we are finding a huge chunk of meat is not our thing. We do do a steak or roast, but not the full-blown meal. Lots more veg in our diet than when we were in our 30s. And much more fruit. We joke, we have turned into our grandparents.

    This week we've had meatballs & mashed potatoes, chicken strips & taters, Oatmeal (him) Chicken soup(me), cold cuts & cheese & crackers, rolls and sausage gravy (I'd say "biscuits" but didn't want anyone in the UK to think we eat cookies with our gravy.)
    Today we are eating leftovers and possibly I'll make a big pot of soup again for next week.

    1. Love soup this time of year. We had a good curry tonight. Leftover meat from one small chicken leg, one onion, four tomatoes, a bit of curry paste with water and a 1/4 cup of light coconut milk. Topped off with a sliced banana.

  7. I have found us eating a bit less lately. It does mean more in the way of leftovers, but it saves me from cooking constantly.

    1. Unfortunately not many leftovers now unless I deliberately make too much, so cook most days. Do tend to batch cook curry, chilli and suchlike.

  9. Like joy I do wish you much fun in your discovery of new recipes. I really enjoy exploring new to me cookbooks and finding new recipes. We eat a lot of fish which we really enjoy.
